Bill Newsome has managed Southwind Capital’s operations since the company’s formation in 1996. Newsome has overseen the company’s growth to out-of-state markets through the establishment of a regional platform, in addition to transactions in selected national markets.

Southwind has two primary lines of business, multi-family and healthcare properties. A significant portion of Southwind’s multi-family resume has been student housing. Work in this sector, including tax-exempt transactions, has been with a number of universities including Kansas State University, Benedictine College, New Mexico State University, Washburn University and Duke University.

Most of his healthcare development resume has been directly with hospitals, both for-profit and not-for-profit systems. Newsome’s institutional relationships have resulted in many transactions with companies in industries including energy, finance and retail.

Beyond Southwind’s primary business lines, the company has maintained an entrepreneurial flare with a series of one-off transactions. Newsome’s experience in finance, transactional structuring and entitlement work has allowed the company to successfully complete many unique transactions.

Prior to founding Southwind, Newsome was the director of development and finance for Hock Development Corp., based in Durham, North Carolina. He managed the company’s healthcare property development relationships with hospital and university clients. He also handled asset and financial management for an institutional office portfolio while at Hock.

Newsome started his career as a commercial loan account manager with InterFirst Bank Dallas. He later joined Wachovia (First Union), ultimately managing a regional commercial real estate lending group for the company’s North Carolina bank.

Newsome holds two degrees from the University of Kansas – a bachelor’s degree in journalism and an MBA. He and his wife, Tecile, have four children, and reside in Lawrence.

Casey Meredith joined Southwind Capital in 2008. He is primarily responsible for financial model creation, cash flow analysis, underwriting of properties, generating proposals and preparing information for third party use.

Meredith is largely involved in debt placements for the Southwind portfolio. His expertise has helped the company achieve efficient funding costs on its portfolio. He is involved in other aspects of asset management for the portfolio, including many of the reporting requirements.

In addition, he provides analytical support for development and acquisitions under consideration.

Meredith has gained particular expertise in the area of public/private arrangements. That expertise extends to housing tax credits and New Market Tax Credits.

Prior to joining Southwind Capital, Meredith played a large role in family-owned business interests as a bookkeeper and manager of internet sales.

Meredith graduated from Kansas State University with a bachelor’s degree in finance. He currently resides in Topeka, KS.

Ann Wilson joined Southwind Capital in 1999. She is involved in Southwind’s administrative, development and marketing functions.

Ms. Wilson oversees Southwind’s administrative operations, including accounts payables, receivables and payroll. She supports the company’s development activities through administration of construction loan draws, coordination with consultants and assistance with due diligence matters.

Southwind provides asset management services to its related commercial real estate portfolio, and Ms. Wilson handles coordination on the debt and equity sides, including communication with lenders and management of reserves. She also assists in all aspects of property tax administration.

Prior to joining Southwind Capital, Ms. Wilson was employed for nine years at Cellular One (Verizon Wireless) in various positions including sales and management. She received her associate’s degree at Hutchinson Community College.

Ann currently resides in Lawrence, KS with her husband and several pets.
